1976 · Thermodynamically stable sulphur forms deep yellow, nonodorous orthorhombic crystals with a space group Fddd-D h224, containing 16 molecules— that is, 128 atoms in the unit cell. It has a density of 2.069 gm/cm 3 and is well soluble in CS 2. Its molecular unit is S 8, cyclooctasulphur, a crown-shaped molecule with a, symmetry of D 4d.
